This quote is trying to say that Alfred and James are really good friends no matter what. The conflict of the story is he wants to be a contender. He has to stand up and not give up. And proves to his friends he is someone. And not regicides like his friend James. Alfred was a young man. That lived In a really poor place. With his aunt after his mom died. He had a choose to Do drugs and be in gangs. But inside he got in to boxing and became a boxer. This story took place in poor place. In Harlem New York during the 1950s. He use to help out his friends. When they needed help like his friend James. When he was in drugs he helped him get out of that. He wanted to be a contender. And almost got caught in drugs. I think it was a really good story. I think who ever Reads this story will like it. Cause it has to do with reality things that happen. When you Live around people that do drugs and are nobody.
