Contender, The by Lipsyte, Robert Reviewed by jose, age 14 The Contender This story is all about being able to continue to do what you want to complete something and to encourage yourself to not use drugs and to not give up, because it can miss you up. The story is all about bring a regular teenager but he gets in tight spots and he had one of his friends got locked up. Then when he came out they did not talk to each other. Then one day something inspired him to become a boxer. He had a trainer named Mr. Donatilli. He began to train. Then he had a couple of fights. Then there was this party and he began to drink because of his friends are telling to drink. The next day he had thought that he had messed up. The main character is Alfred and he cares for the people that he loves. The story takes place in the 1960’s in New York. The story’s them are mostly about staying strong and never give up. I think that my cousin will like it.
